Electrolysis Care

Pre-Appointment
3 Golden Rules (In General): Hydrate, Moisturize, Exfoliate. Hydration can help facilitate a better treatment experience, and general skin health. Also moisturizing your skin helps the treatment area. Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells and prevent ingrown hairs.
Pre Care (Advanced)
-
New Client? Please be sure to fill out your paperwork online prior to your consultation.
-
Shave the treatment area(s) 3-4 Days Ahead. This amount of growth is optimal to work with a little more quickly and properly remove the treated hairs.
-
Do not use Retin A, Tazorac or any serious retinoid for at least 1 week prior to your electrolysis treatment.
-
Some clients may be more sensitive shortly before or during their menstrual cycle. If you need to reschedule, please let us know ASAP before your appointment.
-
Avoid sun exposure 48 hours prior to treatment to avoid dilation of the blood vessels.
-
Alcohol the night before your appointment can dehydrate you.
-
Proper hydration helps with better treatment of hair follicles, and helps your skin heal more quickly.
-
Sunburn issues: more skin heat, more discomfort, slower healing, and/or irritation. **If you cannot make your appointment due to sunburn please let us know ASAP.
Pre Care (Day Of Treatment)
-
Eliminate unnecessary stress.
-
Remove any makeup on areas to be treated.
-
Diet affects treatment sensitivity. Lower or avoid caffeine, chocolate or sugar prior to your appointment. A meal shortly before treatment can help reduce discomfort.
-
There are many topical numbing creams to apply prior to treatment that are available either with or without a prescription. Ask us for more details.
Post-Appointment
-
Repeat The 3 Golden Rules: Hydrate, Moisturize, Exfoliate.
-
No picking or scratching the electrolysis work area. This can lead to inflammation, breakout or scarring.
-
If small scabs appear, they are dried lymph fluid that has drained out of the follicle. Do not scratch, which can lead to scarring. Allow them to fall off naturally.
-
Following treatment, avoid perfume or alcohol-based products. They dry out your skin.
-
Moisturize the treatment area daily with a gentle, unscented moisturizer.
-
You can apply aloe vera daily after treatment.
-
No makeup, nor rubbing/major touching of the electrolysis work area(s) for 24 hours after treatment to minimize breakouts or irritation.
-
Do not swim in a chlorinated pool for 48 hours following treatment.
-
Avoid major sun exposure for 72 hours after treatment.
